What do you do when you're boyfriends really shy and you want him more outspoken?

He's very quiet around my friends but talkative around his. PDA (public display of affection) is out of the question, he's too shy for that too. I want him more comfortable around my friends & I want to spend more time with him and his friends and all that but i have no idea how to get that to happen. Advice please?
