What do you think of using gles for candle holders for a centerpiece? They're cheaper.?

Yes it would be cheaper but dangerous. Regular gles are not made to handle the heat. Even though its just a candle in an enclosed area it gets extremely hot. The gles can crack and shatter. Your best bet would be to find gl items specifically made for candles.
