I am 8 days late for my period what should i do?

I am 8 days late for getting my period I bought a pregnancy test from a dollar store for 1.00 and it was negative but I still havent had my period what else could be the reason besides pregnancy or should i retest as the test was only 1.00 do you think it was reliable
